Peacebuilders allows children and youth to be diverted from the criminal justice system and gives them an opportunity to change their future. The Youth Circles program engages youth disciplined by schools or charged with criminal behaviour in honest, respectful dialogue. The award-winning process unravels the facts, gets to the bottom of the behaviour and establishes a sound foundation for remedial action. Peacebuilders connects them to supports, such as tutoring or counseling, helps them make amends for any wrong doing and assists them in developing social and non-violent communications skills so that they won’t reoffend. Peacebuilders succeeds in creating positive, sustainable solutions that benefit both at-risk youth and our community.

Peacebuilders:

Runs cost-effective programs facilitated by highly skilled volunteers committed to social justice and youth empowerment.

Intervenes so that youth do not enter the criminal justice system where the negative impact is serious and the rate of reoffending exceeds 80%

Builds sustainable solutions at a cost of less than $5,000 per youth compared to up to $140,000 per year to fund a youth in detention

• Helps youth stay in school

Has a 100% record of acceptance by youth court judges and saves valuable court resources

• Is recommended by judges, lawyers, probation officers and schools
